Seasonal Allergies: Reduce Triggers at Home

20 July 2026 · 3 min read · MEH Medical Arogyadham

Dust, pollen, mould and smoke are the most common allergy triggers. Reducing them at home lowers the number of attacks and helps treatment work better.

Bedroom first

  • Wash bedsheets and pillow covers weekly in hot water and dry them in the sun.
  • Keep soft toys, carpets and heavy curtains to a minimum.
  • Dust with a damp cloth instead of a dry duster.

Around the house

  • Avoid incense sticks, mosquito coils and smoking indoors.
  • Fix damp walls to prevent mould.
  • Keep windows closed on windy, high-pollen days.

Personal care

  • Wash face and hands after coming home.
  • Steam inhalation can relieve a blocked nose.
  • Keep prescribed emergency medicines or inhalers handy.

If breathing becomes difficult, lips turn blue, or speaking is hard, go to the nearest hospital immediately.
